Drilling Wells

Bringing Life-Saving Water to Central Congo

In many places around the world, clean, safe water is scarce. In Central Congo, where Paul and Marty carry on their ministry, obtaining pure water is a daily challenge. Though natural springs offer some relief, collecting water from these distant sources—often shared with laundry and washing areas—means that by the time it reaches villages, it’s already contaminated and scarce. Yet just 100 feet below ground lies an abundant supply of pure, life-giving water.
The challenge? Making that water accessible to villagers. By drilling a well directly within the community and installing a hand or solar-powered pump, we can provide clean water right where people live, ensuring a reliable source every single day.
This well brings life-changing relief, especially to women and young girls who typically bear the burden of carrying water up steep hills from valley springs. When a new well is drilled, it transforms their daily lives. Now, instead of a long, exhausting journey, they can fill their containers close to home on level ground, bringing clean water to their families easily and safely. At one of our hand-pump wells, community members were so overjoyed that they pumped water nearly nonstop, from 4 AM until 10 PM each day.
However, creating these wells requires both resources and partners. The average cost to drill, develop, and equip a well is $17,000*—a small price for the massive health and life benefits it provides. The cost covers everything, from the drill rig and fuel to importing essential parts, solar pumps, and water tanks, many of which must be brought in from South Africa or the United States due to local scarcity. It’s a challenging process, but one that pays invaluable dividends for health and quality of life.
We invite you to be part of this mission. By supporting or “Adopting a Well,” you’re giving a gift that will bless these communities for years, providing thousands of gallons of pure water that prevent disease and uplift lives. If you’re ready to make a difference, please consider donating and reach out to us!

*The $17,000 includes costs for transportation, drill equipment, repairs, fuel, insurance, wages, health and import fees, essential construction materials, and solar or hand pumps.
