A Growing Children’s Ministry in Lodja
When Paul and Marty returned to Lodja in 2007, they quickly realized that there was a huge need to share the love of Jesus with children in the area. Marty took the initiative to start a special Bible program on Wednesday afternoons after school. With stories, colorful felt graphics, scripture memory, and time for outdoor play, the program welcomed children ages 4 to 14 to learn about Jesus in a fun and meaningful way.
The response was amazing! In just a short time, over 200 children gathered each week, excited to learn about the Bible and play with friends. Soon, the numbers grew even more, with up to 225 children coming regularly. To expand this impact even further, Marty and the team translated the Bible lessons into Otetela, the local language, and began establishing a solid program at the mission.
Among the many eager learners, about 19 children stood out for their enthusiasm and dedication to memorizing Bible verses. The team decided to create a special Monday class for these children, giving them more time to explore scripture and memorize even more. From verses and Bible books to the Ten Commandments, these children were hiding God’s Word in their hearts with joy and commitment. Their next goal? To memorize the entire book of John!
Seeing the excitement and impact of this ministry, the team expanded their reach. Today, the children’s ministry touches the lives of hundreds of children across four different churches around Lodja, giving kids the chance to grow in faith, friendship, and joy. This vibrant ministry shows that even the youngest members of the community can be part of God’s story and carry His Word with them, shaping their lives for years to come.
