Our Work in the Congo: Projects

A Village Church Project

Rebuilding a village church begins with the financing of the project. Depending on the size of the church needed, the cost will be between $4000 and $5000. This purchases the galvanized roofing, the nails, cement, gravel, sand and the fuel necessary; a barrel of diesel for the vehicles and a barrel of gasoline for the sawmill and power tools.

Old Esenge Village ChurchOnce financing has been found and a church has been selected to re-build, the materials are purchased and shipped to the nearest river port from which they can be trucked to Lodja. The trees needed are found and sawed into the necessary lumber for the project.

At this stage the project is ready for a Work Team or other persons to come assist in the construction of the church structure. The walls of sun-dried or kilned bricks will be added later by the church members.

There are few places in the world where so little investment can make so much difference in the life and vitality of a local Church. These simple structures will serve remote villages as places of worship for 50 to 75 years, or even longer.
