Update from Paul and Marty Law

March 10, 2010

Dear Friends and Partners,

I know that we are way overdue on an update or newsletter, so I want to get one off before I am once again away from all communications for awhile. The last two months have been a little overwhelming and there is much to report.

First: our truck is on a boat in Kinshasa ready to begin the last leg of its trip to Lodja. There were delays in importing it and it was damaged while being unloaded in Matadi. That was a huge disappointment to me personally, but we just have to pick up and press ahead. The cab had been crushed on one side and the windshield was shattered. No one was responsible, of course, so we simply made the repairs and bought a used windshield for it. It will still serve us well and we will be thrilled to have it once it gets here. Thank you again, all of you who have enabled us to have it!

Secondly: the road project that we have prayed over for more than 6 years has finally become a reality. The government has asked us to supervise the rebuilding of the 150 kilometers of road between Lodja and Bena Dibele, our primary river port. The road has been unusable for more than 10 years. There are 9 bridges that need to be repaired, re-enforced, re-decked and re-painted!

Bridge before
Before!
Bridge after
One week later!!

I finally got back from Kinshasa on February 26th and we started sawing lumber the next day for the decking. The bridge was in serious danger of permanent damage and we had to take some of it apart and repair it. Lodja is abuzz with the news that there is a new bridge on the Lokenye River!

I leave today to move our team to the next bridge at the Takidi, sawmill and all. Please pray for our safety and health as we undertake this vital project for the welfare of the entire Sankuru District. The President is supposed to visit us as soon as the road can be traveled all the way to Bena Dibele!

We have purchased and shipped the materials and supplies for both the Diengenga Water Project and the Tshumbe Mission Church. They will arrive with the truck on this next boat. Needless to say, we have plenty to do. These are exciting days of progress and fulfillment for us on many fronts. We are thankful to the Lord!

Thank you all again for your prayers and support that enable us to be here and make a difference in the life of the Church as well as the in the lives of the people of Central Congo.

In His Love,

Paul and Marty
