Christmas 2008

Dear Colleagues,

This is a wonderful time of the year as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who came to earth as a baby and grew into THE MAN who died on Calvary’s cross for our redemption, reconciliation and restoration.

Our Bible Memory Class is going great guns. The children have learned the Books of the Bible, the Ten Commandments and several Bible verses along with references.

Coming back from town this afternoon with Pastor Kitambala and others, one of my students wanted a ride. I picked him up and after a while I asked him (Shako is his name) to quote the Books of the Bible, then the Ten Commandments, and the verses, which he did without a fault! I wanted to "show him off" so to speak. What a blessing he is and was. Please pray for these young minds as they absorb The Word of God. What a privilege I have in working with these children!

I have asked the children to memorize the entire Book of James by the middle of March. I have promised each of the boys a brand new bright red soccer ball of their own. I will take the girls to the market to get each of them a new dress. Do you know what? I bet they do it!

Paul has completed the construction of the roof on the Esenge church. There have been many interruptions by other small projects plus we have lost a day of work each week over the last month because of the ‘abundantly above’ rain God is sending. (Praise Him for the rain. We are blessed.)

The church is slow work. With the roof finished, the foundation will be laid for the brick wall that will surround the posts and for the walls that will go up. The old church will be the supply of bricks. It is small by stateside standards yet will be a real blessing to this local village. It will seat several hundred.

We have no ‘holiday atmosphere’ here as we have no malls with decorations or even TV with all of the Christmas advertisements. I do love Christmas so I miss it.

We understand that these are difficult times financially in the states and it has affected our account as well. We, the children, our co-workers, the high school students I teach, and the church members would all appreciate a Christmas gift to our support account from you. YOUR GIFTS, through the Lord’s leading, make our ministry possible.

I Samuel 30:24 NIV “The share of the man (supporters) who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. (Congo). All shared alike!”

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Paul and Marty
